From playwright extraordinaire Floy Quintos and acclaimed director Dexter Martinez Santos, the creative forces behind multi-awarded theatrical works, such as "The Reconciliation Dinner" and "Grace," Encore Theater proudly presents MIRANDA & YOLANDA, a compelling twin bill of two of Quintos's Palanca 1st Prize–winning one-act plays, "Evening at the Opera" (2011) and "Ang Kalungkutan ng mga Reyna" (2008). These works strip away the public façade of people in power, revealing the personal costs and moral compromises behind authority.
"Evening at the Opera" unfolds on the night of a major cultural event. As Miranda Beloto prepares for the opera she has organized, an intense exchange with her mother and her husband Governor Bingo Beloto exposes the cracks beneath a powerful dynasty's polished façade. This play stars Ana Abad-Santos, Frances Makil-Ignacio and Joshua Cabiladas.
"Ang Kalungkutan ng mga Reyna" takes place inside the presidential palace on the morning after the declaration of Martial Law. Hairstylist Marcel De Alba is summoned to serve President Yolanda Cadiz, as she experiences a psychological shift brought about by absolute power. This play stars Shamaine Centenera-Buencamino, Topper Fabregas, and Jules dela Paz.
Joining Quintos and Santos in the artistic team are Mitoy Sta. Ana (Production Design), John Batalla (Lighting Designer), Steven Tansiongco (Graphic and Video Designer), Arvy Dimaculangan (Music and Sound Designer), Mikko Angeles (Assistant Director), Marvin Olaes (Dramaturg and Publicity Manager), Davidson Oliveros (Dramaturg and Publicity Manager), and Meliton Roxas, Jr. (Technical Director).
MIRANDA & YOLANDA is produced by Encore Theater, a company led by long- time theater practitioners, and real-life couple, Stella Cañete and Juliene Mendoza.
The show will run for approximately 2 hours with a 15-minute intermission. Performances are scheduled every Saturday and Sunday at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM from April 11 to May 3, 2026 at the Power Mac Center Spotlight Blackbox Theater, Ayala Malls Circuit, Makati City.
